Applying for Grants

The Los Alamos Community Foundation is pleased to offer a variety of opportunities for community grants.

Application Process

LACF’s competitive grantmaking cycle takes place each Spring.  Applications will open about the last week in March and will close at 5:00 pm on April 30.  Grant recipients will be selected and notified by late May. The foundation will hold pre-proposal workshops for interested organizations to ask questions and learn more about each available funding opportunity.  Look for the foundation to announce pre-proposal workshop dates and times in March. Grant applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of LACF board members and community members.

Grant Requirements

  • Please complete all required fields and upload attachments.
  • The organization requesting support needs to be a registered and active 501(c)(3) and/or provide a fiscal sponsor. The organization or its fiscal sponsor must also be current in its registration with the NM Attorney General’s list of charitable organizations and with Guidestar.org
  • Unless otherwise specified, grant cycles are open to nonprofit organizations located in Los Alamos County.
  • Funds awarded should be utilized in full within one year of funds receipt.
  • Grant recipients will be required to submit a report to the foundation within 13 months of receiving a grant.
  • The Los Alamos Community Foundation does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, age, sexual orientation, or national origin. Applicants must hold similar standards.

Current Funding Opportunities

LACF Discretionary Grants

The Los Alamos Community Foundation Board of Directors invites nonprofit organizations located in Los Alamos County to submit a grant application requesting up to $5,000 to improve the financial health of the organization.  LACF defines “financial health” as any effort which results in a measurable improvement across one or more dimensions of an organization’s financial sustainability, to include, but not limited to, areas such as:  diversifying funding sources and income streams, building technological capacity that allows for increased efficiencies, investing in board development to ensure proper governance and fiduciary oversight, pursuing a formal financial audit or review, evaluating/increasing current fundraising efforts, or increasing marketing efforts to broaden community outreach thereby bringing in new donors/customers/clients.  The 2022 application deadline has passed.

Community Endowment for Youth Sports

The Los Alamos Community Foundation invites grant applications from nonprofit organizations in Los Alamos County requesting up to $1,700 to fund competitive youth sports activities. Organizations are invited to apply for funding for projects that build leadership skills in youth through achievement in competitive team sports. Youth served by the program must be located in Los Alamos County and/or attend Los Alamos public schools, and be between the ages of 5-18 years old.  The 2022 application deadline has passed.

Community Endowment for Music Organizations

The Los Alamos Community Foundation invites grant applications from nonprofit organizations in Los Alamos County requesting up to $500 in unrestricted operating support. This funding cycle is open to nonprofits whose work expands knowledge and appreciation of genres such as classical, orchestral and band music, light opera, marching band, and choral performances.  The 2022 application deadline has passed.

Enterprise Bank and Trust Community Endowment

Funds from the Enterprise Bank and Trust Community Endowment will be pooled with LACF Discretionary Grant dollars to maximize impact for eligible nonprofits.
